Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that picking the right nursery for your child is a difficult decision to make. From drop-offs and pick-ups, to mealtime and nap time, there’s a lot to consider to ensure the nursery you choose is the right fit for you and your little one. As one of the best nurseries in Nottingham, Angels by Day are here to make that decision as easy as possible! Below, you’ll find some frequently asked questions that provide some extra information on our approach and day-to-day practices.

If there’s a question that’s not covered on this page, please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone or visit our contact page.

What is the story of Angels by Day?

We’ve been around since 1997, we’re well respected by OFSTED and, best of all, many of us are parents ourselves! We understand how it feels to juggle work, home and friends, so Angels By Day believe in being supportive and lending you a hand whenever we can – whether you need flexible childcare or simply a nursery that shares your outlook and aspirations.

What is your approach to childcare?

We understand that there’s not a one size fits all approach when caring for your child. Our approach is mostly inspired by the Montessori Method, a practice that teaches care and respect for yourself, each other, and the environment around you – we think these are fantastic principles for life; however young or old you are. We use specially designed Montessori apparatus to show children things, rather than simply expecting them to understand our explanations. Although a great deal of what we do is guided by the Montessori Method, it’s not dictated by it. We’re always open and mindful of new ideas and different children’s needs. We’re also big fans of The Curiosity Approach and holistic learning.

What makes up a usual day at Angels by Day?

At our day nursery in Nottingham, we offer a huge variety of activities that cover both indoor and outdoor time! From drawing and painting, to writing and imaginative play, we ensure that all activities have the flexibility for being achieved in groups or individually! We have a large range of household and garden toys, and make time for group and self reading. We also cover hobbies such as cooking, gardening, craft work and music and movement (and more!).

And what about the food?

We believe mealtimes should be enjoyable too, we make sure our menus are delicious as well as nutritious and that there’s plenty of healthy snacks and drinks available for children throughout the day. Breakfast is between 8 and 8.45; we serve lunch around 11.30 and have tea about 3.00, although if a child is having a snooze, they’ll be offered lunch or tea when they wake up. Cauliflower, Butternut Squash Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Roast Quorn/Chicken with Roasties, Yorkshires, stuffing, carrots and red cabbage are a few menu examples however our chefs cater to every dietary requirement, allergy and intolerance. Any worries simply pop into the kitchen for a chat with our very own domestic goddess!

What are Angel by Day’s opening hours?

The nursery is open from 7.30am to 6.30pm and we request that parents and carers please respect this and keep to these times. We offer long opening hours and our staff work very hard throughout the day so if you’re late collecting your child we may ask you to pay a late collection fee of £10.00.

Do Angels by Day offer half days?

Yes! Morning sessions are from 7.30am until 1.00pm and include breakfast, mid morning snack and lunch. (If you wish your child to have breakfast please ensure that they arrive before 8.45am) Afternoon sessions are from 1.30pm until 6.30pm, afternoon tea will be provided with a snack towards home time if needed. At our Lenton site we have a minimum attendance of 4 half days, or 2 full days, as we feel that children benefit most from this. If these timings don’t quite align with your requirements please discuss your needs with us and we will do our best to accommodate you, potentially for a revised fee.

When are you closed?

Angels by Day is open throughout the year except for weekends, bank holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year. On Christmas Eve we close at 14.30. All of these dates are displayed on the notice board in our hall.

Which age ranges to Angels by Day care for?

Angels by Day welcomes children from the age of 6 weeks to 4+, when they leave us to go to school. During school holidays we operate a Holiday Club, based in the Pod. There are a small number of places available for school age children, the majority of which are either the elder siblings of current children or ex nursery children now at big school.

Qualifications?

All Angels by Day staff hold or are working towards a professional childcare qualification, i.e. NNEB, Btec, NVQ’s, PPA Dip. or Montessori Dip. and/or relevant childcare experience.

What’s the carer to child ratio?

Staffing ratios are well above those required to comply with the Children Act regulations. We have a higher ratio as we believe strongly that it is very important for children to receive a high level of individual attention and it creates a more relaxed environment for both the staff and children!

How do you secure a nursery place?

To secure a place at Angels by Day a deposit of one month’s fees must be paid. The deposit is paid back to the parent/carer on termination of the child’s nursery place as long as the child has commenced nursery and one month’s notice has been given.
