The Baby Room

In our baby room, we’re dedicated to nurturing physical development. We provide Secure Spaces for Babies to explore at different levels, aiding in young children’s physical development. They can crawl, pull to standing, and discover new spaces. The children love to explore the Climbing Frame, where we witness their progress, from mastering the stairs to hiding in the tunnel.

Within these secure spaces, we ensure that they are baby-friendly and adaptable for all ages. Plenty of objects of interest are on display, allowing the children to use their senses to explore, along with abundant visual stimulation. Our little explorers particularly enjoy our Sensory Stage with bubble lights and sensory baskets. This is a fantastic space for young babies to explore, and it’s where our staff members introduce new language to the children. They have lots of fun using the sensory objects in new ways—shaking, stacking, and hiding objects in the basket. Babies love to be curious; this is a space we change with lots of exciting sensory toys.

At Angels by Day, we understand that entering a nursery can be a big step. That’s why all new children to the setting will have Settling In Sessions. This is a crucial time to build their first initial relationships with key people and room-based staff. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask all the first initial questions from our trained caregivers.

Every child at Angels by Day is provided with a Key Person who will support them with settling in and observing their developmental needs. We ensure that all children, whether they are mobile or not, have the same opportunities. There are many interesting interactive activities on the carpet to help with supporting tummy time. If your child is not yet mobile, our staff will ensure they are being moved around the different spaces of the room, keeping them engaged and becoming familiar with the surroundings.

At Angels by Day, we thrive on communication and language. Our onsite communication and language lead trains staff on positive interactions. The babies explore Makaton signs when engaging with story time and have a new sign and a talking bag each week. The children take turns to take the talking bag home, which is adapted to each child’s level of communication development. This is a lovely interactive opportunity between practitioners and parents.

Children adapt to their new surroundings and are welcomed into a nice calming environment with familiar staff members. This helps children grow in confidence. Children need to feel secure, content, and comfortable, and we ensure that this is a top priority.

We also make sure that all children’s needs are met. We provide water throughout the day at the child’s level and a healthy, balanced diet with meals prepared by our in-house chef. We offer nice, intimate spaces with comforters to support children when they are having their bottles. We have worked with many families of breastfed children and helped many with weaning onto bottle feeds, offering methods to support this transition to prepare them for nursery.

In addition to physical and emotional well-being, we also provide the children with cosy spaces to explore books. The children are keenly interested in these areas and will spend lots of time alongside staff members exploring different books. They love conversing, repeating words, or even babbling the story to their peers. We promote group times within the room, and this is a focused part of our daily routine, allowing children to thrive in literacy communication and language. The children love rhymes and exploring the props to support them, allowing them to take a role within the story.

At Angels by Day, we always ensure the space is clean, tidy, and welcoming. We have cleaning rotas in place and ensure bottle-preparing areas are sterile.

In our baby room, we are a child-led provider. This means most activities are set up based on each child’s interests. We create play areas next to toy baskets on the carpet, allowing children to choose their preferred activities. These activities are then set out to include natural resources that align with our curiosity-based learning approach. Staff members always engage in children’s play, introducing new language and echoing children’s movements and actions, helping with communication development.
